As the class' honorary leader and figurehead,  Charles chairs the Controlling Board, which can provide sound guidance and advice to the Captain and his Committee.

 

The Admiral is typically a Daring owner of long standing and high estimation within the class. Charles has sailed Darings since 19##, and is a member of the Dynamite syndicate.​​

​

Charles was appointed in December 2023 and will serve until 2028.

As Class Captain, Josh is responsible for the day-to-day running of the class and chairs the Committee.

 

Despite being relatively young, Josh has sailed Darings for over 20 years off-and-on, racing with many of the boats currently on the water, but in recent years has gone steady on his family boat, Dauntless.

​

In the past, Josh has also sailed stints on First 40s, 8 metres, Spirit yachts, Etchells, Lasers and other boats from time to time. He is dedicated to improving engagement and outreach, and is happy to use a variety of tools to achieve it.

​

Josh works as a Systems Engineer who lives and works on the Island with his young family.

​

Josh was appointed in December 2023 and will serve until 2027.

As Vice Captain, Laurence is prepared to deputise for the Class Captain.

​

Laurence balances sailing the family boat, Dancer, with raising a young family and his job as a general medical practitioner in Scotland.

​

Laurence was appointed in December 2023 and will serve until 2027.

As Honorary Treasurer, Mike is responsible for providing financial guidance to the Committee, overseeing the management of the accounts with the support of the Administrator, and presenting the accounts to the membership at the AGM.

​

Mike has a long and illustrious sailing pedigree, both inshore and offshore. He completing his term as Admiral of RORC in 2024, before which he was Commodore. He is also a commissioner of Cowes Yacht Haven.

​

Mike sails as part of the Darling syndicate, recently winning Cowes Classics Week in 2024.

​

Outside of sailing, Mike is a practicing solicitor and lives in Cowes.

​

Mike was appointed in December 2024 and will serve until 2028.

As Honorary Secretary, Stephen is responsible for executing or overseeing ​a wide range of tasks, which include minutes and agendas; the members' handbook; trophies and results; and other various aspects of day-to-day class life.

​

Stephen is a relative newcomer to Cowes, but has quickly become a regular with the class and with RLYC, leading the Defender syndicate. Stephen has a highly competitive nature and has enjoyed figuring out how to sail Darings fast with his often equally unfamiliar crew!

​

Outside of sailing, Stephen spent 12 years in investment banking before leaving JP Morgan as a Managing Director.

​

Stephen was appointed in December 2023 and will serve until 2026.

As Social Secretary, ​Alice is responsible for planning and executing all of our classic and innovative class social events, which can be seen on the calendar.

​

Alice sails the family boat, Streak. The Dibben family have been racing Darings for many years and have recently welcomed the fourth generation, who will surely be brought up to ply the foredeck!

​

Alice was appointed in December 2024 and will serve until 2028.

As Administrator, Myles carries out much of the legwork of the class, supporting the officers of the committee with their various responsibilities.

​​

Myles took on these extensive voluntary responsibilities after stepping down as Class Captain (2021-2023). The Administrator is not a committee position and so Myles serves indefinitely. 

​

Myles is part of the Derring~Do syndicate and is most often seen trimming mainsails and spinnakers.

​

Outside of sailing, Myles has worked in extensively in the healthcare sector and has for some years run his own consultancy which supports organisations with stop-smoking schemes.​​
